ProfileAmyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal motor neuron disease with no effective treatment so for. When I was an undergraduate student, I learned what ALS is and understood what a severe disease ALS is in a lecture. The nature of ALS as the disease made me extremely amazed and shocked. Since then, I have been studying basic research on ALS. The mission of my research is to elucidate how superoxide dismutase-1 (SOD1), one of the responsible protein for ALS, kills motor neurons. My current research is focused on understanding why and how SOD1 obtains a property on the cell-to-cell transmission throughout the central nervous system in vivo such as mouse models and patients with ALS.
